“My child loves and looks forward to school every day.”
“My child thrives at Balshaw Lane and he loves going every day.”
Parents' Questionnaire comments, Autumn 2021.
At Balshaw Lane, we aim to have all our children attending school 100% of the time.
We recognise that they may sometimes be ill or have medical appointments.
Otherwise, we expect all children to be in school, on time.
Our attendance is consistently above national averages (in non-covid years).
2018-19 School 97.2% National 96.1%
2021-22 School 95.61%
We believe that our excellent attendance is due to the children loving coming to school to learn, due to our vibrant curriculum and strong relationships.
The governors do not authorise holidays in term time.
Penalty notices may apply to unauthorised absence: please see our Term Dates page for more information.
If children's attendance falls below 95%, we will discuss with parents how to support them.
Absence which falls below 90% is considered to be 'persistent absence' by the government.
This is very rare at Balshaw Lane and may be due to medical needs.
Support may be provided by the school nurse and/or the local authority attendance officer.
